Goldfish darting through water could indicate the fish isn’t getting enough oxygen for some reason or another. Water low in oxygen causes fish to feel stressed, and they often panic by racing through the water. Symptoms of oxygen deprivation are sucking air at surface, darting or flashing, and reddening around the gills

Bleeding eye or bulging eye are other symptoms that appears in more severe cases

Darting or flashing is also exhibited by fish infected with parasites due to the discomfort
